Hidden Warehouse Fire Hazards

Listen to our property and claims specialists discuss these issues, actual losses and ways to help identify solutions to reduce the potential for a fire in your warehouse.

Common Warehouse Hazards That Go Unnoticed
Some hazards you may not be aware of include:

  • High-intensity discharge (HID) lights. This type of lighting can cause fires if not properly installed. In fact, our Claim representatives have investigated dozens of fires, which have resulted in millions of dollars in losses.
  • Hot work. Hot work, such as cutting, welding, grinding, brazing and soldering, introduces significant fire hazards if performed in a warehouse setting and not managed properly.
  • Storage. If a fire does start in your warehouse, improper product storage and placement, such as storing items in aisles, can cause the fire to get out of control.

What You Can Learn

  • How to find out if your lighting presents a fire hazard.
  • Why to worry about contractors or others performing hot work.
  • How common storage practices like aisle storage can lead to the inability of your fire sprinkler system to control a fire.
