e-CARMA® - Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does e-CARMA stand for?
"e" is the common prefix that means a product is available on the Internet. CARMA® is the acronym for Client Access Risk Management Analysis.
-
How long has CARMA been utilized?
Our ever-evolving CARMA product has been in use since 1981. It has a proven track record that makes it one of the premier risk management systems in the marketplace today. We know customers don't have the time to learn new systems each year, so when we enhance our products, we seamlessly integrate the changes into the existing product. That way, customers continue to get the system they're looking for with a minimal learning curve. Our Internet-based e-CARMA product is a great example of this.
-
Who uses your e-CARMA product?
Our clients are from a wide variety of industries, insurance brokers, agencies and third party administrators.
-
How is data secured over the Internet?
Security is an important issue. That's why our products have a number of security safeguards in place. The main level of security is provided via a digital certificate, which acts as a private key that allows you to safely move from the public Internet to the Travelers secured network. Once in the Travelers secured network, each e-CARMA user has a unique ID and password which further limits their access to only the information they require.
-
Can data from e-CARMA be used in other software products?
Reports can be created in two formats - pdf files (through Acrobat Reader) and Microsoft ® Excel. Screen print images can also be dropped into Microsoft Word ® and PowerPoint.
-
Is there any limit to the number of locations that can access e-CARMA?
There is no limit to the number of locations or the number of users that can access e-CARMA. Each user can be set up for secured access to data for a single location or a specific group of locations.
-
Can data from prior carriers or claim administrators be accessed in e-CARMA?
Yes. As a matter of fact, Travelers RMIS is an industry leader in integrating data from other carriers. We've been translating other carrier data for use in CARMA® for over 20 years. Each month, we load other carrier data files onto our CARMA® database from a variety of carriers and third-party administrators. We have a staff of experts that specializes in translating and loading this data.
-
How do you ensure that organization coding is consistent if a customer re-organizes, acquires other companies, or has multiple carriers?
Customers work with their dedicated RMIS Information Account Executive to develop a new organization structure, and recode prior claims to that structure. When data is integrated from other carriers, those claims are converted to the new structure as well.
-
How do you avoid the "garbage in/garbage out" cycle?
Data quality is a top priority in RMIS. Here are a few of the ways we ensure our customers' data integrity. First, we work with our customers to set up a claim coding structure that meets their organization's unique reporting needs. As requirements change, we work together to modify the data. Then, when notices of loss are reported to Travelers via our 1-800 Telephone Reporting Center or our e-Claim (Internet-based) Reporting options, information such as employee name, address, phone number, occupation and wage can automatically pre-fill from the customer's Human Resources system. Finally, our RMIS account staff makes periodic data quality reviews. We work together with our customers to make data capture easy and accurate.
-
What kind of system support do you provide?
Travelers RMIS customers get much more than a hotline number. Each account is assigned a dedicated RMIS Information Account Executive to work as a team with the individual e-CARMA users. The Account Executive's goal is to operate as an extension of the customer's risk management department. RMIS representatives work with our in-house team of custom programmers, analysts, and data integration experts to be sure the information - and the way it's presented - meets each customer's unique needs.
