Motor Truck Cargo Liability
What It Covers
Motor Truck Cargo policies insure common and contract carriers for loss of or damage to cargo in their care, custody or control. Motor Truck Cargo coverage is provided on a legal liability basis as determined by the contract of carriage between the motor carrier and the shipper (Bill of Lading or other specially negotiated contract). Generally, a carrier is liable for the safe delivery of the property entrusted to it, not only while on the carrier's vehicles, but also while temporarily at terminals awaiting shipment. Our Motor Truck Cargo Legal Liability policy is designed to cover the carrier for that liability.
Who Needs It
Anyone who carries the property of others in return for a tariff:
- Common Carriers
- Contract Carriers
- Those with non-trucking risks who backhaul property of others on their own trucks
