The goal of the Claim Legal Summer Associate Program is to hire and develop high potential candidates into attorney positions at Travelers. Summer associates have the opportunity to work directly with seasoned attorneys during the summer months. Associates are given the opportunity to do research, draft briefs and motions, and observe proceedings in various courts. Within Claim Legal, staff counsel attorneys represent individual and business policy holders in a wide variety of litigation. At Travelers, there are more than 650 attorneys in 62 offices throughout the United States who handle cases from inception through trial and appeal. Cases include automobile, general liability, construction, construction defect, subrogation, product liability and workers compensation. Claim Legal attorneys provide an array of services, including analysis of first- and third-party coverage issues; litigation of coverage disputes and other claims against the company; examinations under oath; training, drafting and review of policy language; and assistance with regulatory and compliance matters. Claim Legal attorneys also advise the company on reinsurance matters and strategic claim initiatives. They work with Claim professionals on significant cases and provide advice on management of counsel and legal expenses. Requirements- Second-year law student
- Strong academic credentials
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Prior work experience
- Motivation to succeed
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Valid/current driver’s license
