Below is the joint history of St. Paul Fire & Marine and Travelers Guarantee.
St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company - 1928 (wholly owned subsidiary of The St. Paul Companies, Inc.) St. Paul Fire & Marine was established in 1865. It was incorporated in Minnesota on April 25, 1925. On April 13, 1928 it received Federal Registration in Canada. | Travelers Guarantee Company of Canada - 1989 Travelers Guarantee started out as Wellington Guarantee, a division of the Wellington Insurance Company, which was owned by London Insurance Group. The company was later changed to London Guarantee Insurance Company and was sold to Great West Life in 1997. Great West Life in turn sold the company to The St. Paul in March 2002 and changed its name to St. Paul Guarantee Insurance Company on January 1, 2003. With the Travelers merger on January 1, 2007, the company changed its name again to Travelers Guarantee Company of Canada.

Northern Indemnity - Seaboard Surety Northern Indemnity Inc. was established as the Canadian operations of Seaboard Surety Inc. In 1982 Seaboard was purchased by The St. Paul. On January 1, 2004 St. Paul Guarantee and Northern Indemnity Inc. joined operations under the management of St. Paul Guarantee Insurance Company. |

The company has offices in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia and employs approximately 300 people across the country. | Travelers Guarantee Company of Canada Travelers Guarantee represents the amalgamation of London Guarantee, Northern Indemnity, Seaboard Surety and Travelers Casualty and Surety. Travelers Guarantee is licensed in all provinces and territories and has offices in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec and employs approximately 150 people. |
