Travelers of Canada is currently hiring for a Manager, Oil & Gas reporting to both the Canadian Operation and the Oil and Gas business unit in Denver. He or she will be responsible for the development of superior insurance products and services as well as high quality underwriting and pricing guidelines for oil & gas risks in Canada.  He or she will be responsible for managing the performance and profitability of the oil & gas segment in Canada.  He or she will market, underwrite and service multi-line exposures for oil and gas risks within the Alberta territory. He or she will also uterilize authority and sales skills to solicit new business; create and manage clear channels of communication between Travelers in Canada and assigned brokers to maximize business opportunities.

Job Specifications:

  • Develop and execute a well-defined underwriting strategy for the oil & gas segment, working closely with the Oil & Gas Business Unit in the US
  • Develop oil and gas products/services for the Canadian marketplace
  • Develop underwriting risk appetite and rules as well as underwriting and pricing guidelines for the oil & gas segment in Canada
  • Identify market opportunities within assigned brokers
  • Establish and maintain effective and profitable business relationships with key oil and gas brokers and customers
  • Provide broker staff training on topics such as oil and gas risk appetite and Travelers Oil and Gas products
  • Perform risks assessments, pricing for new business, complex renewals, endorsements and making exceptional underwriting decisions where appropriate
  • Viewed as an expert in multi-line underwriting, with emphasis on general liability
  • Provide training to oil & gas underwriters in Canada on products, services, underwriting and pricing guidelines
  • Review underwriting analysis on more complex risks referred by underwriters with lower authority and provide recommendations
  • Delegate authority to oil & gas underwriters in Canada  to achieve a book of high quality profitable oil and gas business
  • Conduct quality reviews through analysis of management reports and underwriting audits to evaluate book performance and profitability and make recommendations as needed
  • Monitor competitor products and sharing information with the business unit

Job Qualifications:

  • A university degree with seven (7) or more years related undewriting experience, including commercial marketing and sales experience or equivalent combination of education/training and experience
  • Strong technical skills in underwiting and coverage analysis
  • Maintain and develop external contacts in the Oil & Gas community through membership in professional associations and attendance at seminars and conferences
  • Underwriting experience in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry is preferred
  • Demonstate commitment to professional development
  • Proven ability to effectively market and sell products, build relationships, communicate, budget and present to groups
  • Working knowledge of the broker distribution system and strong PC skills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, presentation, organization, negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinker, ability to articulate the big picture
  • Strong attention to detail, and accuracy couple with excellent leadership, client relationships, analytical, negotiation, problem solving, influencing, documentation and organizaitonal change
  • Strong communication skills
  • Exceptional time and project management skills
