Travelers of Canada is hiring for a Software Developer. Reporting to the Manager, Application Development, the incumbent will be working in the IT department in our Toronto office. He or she will be responsible for all aspects of Canadian-built software products including software development, preliminary documentation, source code control, quality assurance, software maintenance, error tracking and reporting, software standards and guidelines, software implementation, technical user support, and new software product research and development.
Job Specifications:
- Ensures the successful implementation of Canadian IT products and solutions on time, within budget, and with high quality standards.
- Designs and writes robust, extensible, high-quality code that meets business, technical and quality requirements.
- Provides process, data and object modeling for use in our application and database environments.
- Provides database design, development, administration and enhancement, as well as management and coordination of changes to existing applications.
- Provides technical architecture analysis, design, development, and enhancement.
- Maintains senior level expertise and currency in industry leading information management technologies in order to enhance the operational effectiveness of the client’s business.
- Develops comprehensive documentation while meeting technical industry standards.
- Manages all the day-to-day activities, which include but not limited to operation processes and workflows, defines performance and quality standard; coordinates problem resolution with development and/or product vendors.
- Independently develops complex test plans, which include regression testing and the packaging of tests into consecutive steps based on logical dependencies.
- Collaborates with Business Analysts, Development Manager and/or Project Manager on meeting business needs, resolving problems and issues quickly, establishing priorities, and communicating status and corrective action.
- Oversee projects, code review, training and mentoring to junior and intermediate staff.
- Develop costing proposals for projects, perform risk analysis, and manage change control.
- Ensures adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audit requirements.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree or recognized technical diploma in Computer Science or related field.
- Five years demonstrable experience at the senior level in the application development, information management and systems environment.
- High level of handling software development issues related to databases for relational, object-oriented, and other database and software technologies. Experience with multiple database technologies and products are essential.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and work well under pressure in a fast paced environment .
- Solid understanding of client/server architecture and object-oriented methodologies.
- 5+ years of .Net specific development using VB.Net and some exposure to VB 6.
- 5+ years of MS SQL server experience (T-SQL, Stored Procedures, Triggers, Functions, Replication, Performance Monitor & SQL profiler)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in both verbal and written communication
- Ability to design and implement coding standards, highly complex data models and databases, and resolve modeling issues.
- Understands of supported applications and all interdependencies (OS, network, server, workstations, etc).
- Expertise in SDLC development and strategic alignment of IT solutions with business objectives.
- High level of understanding and experience with all data modeling concepts and practices, database design, database performance, optimization programming languages and design methodologies.
- Capacity for recognizing system deficiencies and implementing effective solutions.
