Travelers is hiring for an Underwriter in our Toronto office who aspires to become an underwriting specialist in one of Travelers business segments. Reporting to the Manager, Central Region, the successful candidate will be working in Business Insurance group within Central Region. He/she will underwrite and focus on whole account underwriting of mid sized accounts. A solid background in Liability, Property/Inland Marine and to a lesser extent Automobile is a requirement. A working knowledge of the underwriting issues that are currently being faced in the marketplace is essential.
Job Specifications:
- In conjunction with other team members, effectively manage a portfolio of assigned accounts
- Responsible for performing risk assessments and determining pricing for New Business, Renewals and Endorsements
- Demonstrates a sense-of-urgency in prioritizing tasks and responds to /brokers and other industry personnel in a clear and concise manner, demonstrating a high quality of customer service
- Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation/ and adherence to documentation standards.
- Develop knowledge and ability to manage business meetings with clients and brokers, identifying and achieving strategic objectives
- Actively participates as a team member by discussing underwriting concerns and issues with other team members
- Develop and cultivate business relationships with brokers, clients, and other stake holders
- Understand, embrace, and execute Underwriting Practices.
- Developing product knowledge and adhere to procedures/standards.
- Gain an understanding of key market segment strategies.
Job Qualifications:
- Completion of a post secondary education or equivalent.
- Completion of CIP program preferred.
- Minimum of two to three years of underwriting experience would be an asset.
- General understanding of commercial risk selection, coverage, reinsurance, pricing, exposure analysis, and financial assessment.
- A working knowledge of manual and automated rating systems, policy forms and regulatory procedures.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Strong customer service skills are required to develop/maintain productive client relationships in support of business objectives
- Ability to listen, influence, and negotiate is essential.
- Exceptional in building relationships with internal and external customers
- Demonstrates leadership characteristics and traits by taking ownership and responsibility for decisions and outcomes, meets deadlines, demonstrates integrity and initiative
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office
- Active involvement in outside educational insurance programs
