Travelers Guarantee Company of Canada is hiring for an underwriter trainee in our Home Warranty Underwriting department. This position reports to the manager of underwriting in the Vancouver office, and will focus on underwriting assigned accounts, maintaining client relationships, assisting underwriters with development of new business and servicing existing clients.

Job Specifications:

  • Assess and monitor an assigned portfolio of accounts, which includes risk analysis, recommendations, renewals and file administration
  • Knowledge of Travelers Guarantee’s underwriting guidelines, departmental product lines, internal processes, standard forms, contract documentation, and lines of authority and responsibility
  • Ability to apply underwriting criteria to assess risk, conduct a financial analyst, and make underwriting recommendations on new and existing accounts
  • Understanding of the provisions of the Homeowners Protection Act and Regulations as well as the licensing requirements that involve the Homeowners Protection Office
  • Prepare warranty documentation within the bounds of authority and ensure the accuracy of all documents issued by Travelers Guarantee
  • Possess a complete knowledge of all Travelers Guarantee warranty products with the ability to market effectively to new and existing clients
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with builders without compromising underwriting principles

Job Qualifications:

  • Completion of a university degree, preferably in a business discipline or economics, is preferred
  • Previous underwriting, lending or credit analysis experience is an asset
  • Prior work experience in residential construction or real estate is an asset
  • Shows solid business and pursues only those opportunities that fit the focus of Travelers Guarantee
  • Weighs alternatives, meets commitments and accepts accountability
  • Ability to perform in a team environment utilizing conflict resolution, problem solving and other team skills
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and other Windows-based software
