The Financial Management Leadership Development Summer Internship Program provides qualified students an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand business experience in the insurance industry, receive valuable on-the-job training through career development workshops and interaction with all levels of management. Interns will work on challenging assignments that will utilize and develop their technical skills as well as their overall business skills. These exciting positions are complemented by business seminars, social functions, a mentor program and a competitive compensation package.
Successful performance during the Internship could lead to full time opportunities in our Financial Management Leadership Development Program (FMLDP), which has been preparing future leaders for more than 20 years. FMLDP graduates currently hold leadership positions in our business segments as well as in our corporate support organizations. Our graduates are financial officers, controllers and business unit heads, as well as hold a variety of other highly visible positions.
Internship Components
Past FMLDP internships include:
- Financial reporting and analysis (corporate and business units)
- Creation and analysis of management information
- Activity-based costing
- Project management
- Cost/benefit analysis
- Product line profitability analysis
- Modeling/database implementation and analysis
- Budgeting/reforecasting
- Internal audit/Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
Requirements
- Undergraduate students completing their junior year
- Preferred GPA of 3.2 or greater and successful completion of at least one accounting course
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Initiative and involvement in activities
- Motivation to succeed and seeking a long-term career opportunity

Locations
Positions are available in Hartford, Conn. and Saint Paul, Minn. beginning in May or early June through the end of the summer. Positions are available in our corporate departments and business units. Subsidized apartments are available for students who live beyond a commutable distance from Hartford, Conn. or Saint Paul, Minn.
