Q: What is the 2008 funding schedule for Travelers in Connecticut?
A: We hope to complete all charitable giving by August 2008. There are three funding phases for charitable giving in calendar year 2008, with deadlines as follows:
- February 15
- May 16
- August 8
While there is no guarantee of response time, we will strive to communicate with our community partners in the following ways:
- Email confirmation within 5 days of receipt of application.
- Email notification of approval/declination of request within 60 days of funding phase deadline.
- Mailing of checks to grantees within 120 days of funding phase deadline.
In addition, Travelers Community Affairs staff may contact applicants throughout the funding cycle, if necessary, to ask for additional information, communicate any changes in policies, request site visits, or for other similar reasons.
Q: Do we have a better chance of receiving funding if we apply for the first funding phase?
A: No. Approximately one-third of our allotted 2008 funds will be available for each funding phase, so there is no advantage to applying earlier in the year.
Q: Do you have a preference as to when we apply?
A: We ask that you use your best judgment in applying for funds based on your program or fiscal year, and our funding deadlines. For instance, it may be appropriate for programs/organizations operating on a fall-to-spring schedule to apply in August, when you will be able to provide the most complete qualitative and quantitative data related to the 2008-2009 school year.
Q: May we apply for funding for more than one program in calendar year 2008?
A: We prefer that you concentrate your request to one priority area. However, there is no formal rule against one organization receiving funding for multiple programs or receiving a combination of operating and program funds. If you wish to ask for funding for multiple purposes, please combine the request into one grant application, clearly itemizing budgets by purpose/program.
Q: If we receive a grant in calendar year 2008, may we apply for civic/sponsorship funding, too?
A: Yes. While we do consider our overall support for each organization when considering a grant or sponsorship request, organizations may receive funding in both categories. However, we do require separate applications for charitable requests and civic/sponsorship opportunities.
Q: Are there funding phases and deadlines for civic/sponsorship funding?
A: The process for civic/sponsorship request review is less formal; requests will be “bundled” from time to time, based on volume and deadlines for the applying organizations, to submit to our review committee. We encourage applicants to submit requests as much in advance of an event or other opportunity as possible, preferably at least four months in advance. We hope to make the majority of our commitments for 2008 civic/sponsorship opportunities by August. However, we do understand that many events happen in the last five months of the year, and will consider applications after that date.
