Travelers Ranked as One of the 50 Best Internships by BusinessWeek

In the first annual 50 Best Internships list created by BusinessWeek, Travelers ranked number 36, the highest of all property casualty companies that appear on the list.

“We’ve had an unbelievable year for entry-level recruitment at Travelers,” said Carlos Figueroa, director of College Relations. “BusinessWeek ’s 50 Best Internships list and Best Places to Launch a Career survey are signs that we’re committed to being in-synch with what young professionals are looking for in a company.”

Travelers’ internship opportunities allow students to work as part of the team, side by side with full-time employees and managers. Interns interact on a daily basis with senior leaders and subject matter experts. They gain insight into the real working world, while taking on meaningful assignments. And, they are asked to make significant and lasting contributions to our company’s success.

“As an intern in Corporate Audit, I had the chance to see all aspects of the company while working on projects that really mattered to executives and managers,” said Beatriz Posada, a senior at the University of Connecticut who has interned at Travelers for the past two years.

Throughout her internship experiences, Posada had the opportunity to network with executive-level leaders, employees throughout the company and other interns.

“The interaction with top executives was what I loved most about my internship experiences,” Posada said. “I even went to lunch with the CFO. I never thought executives would be so willing to talk to an intern.”

Posada was offered a full-time position in the Financial Management Leadership Development Program upon graduation in May. “The advice I received in choosing a company to work for was to pick one where there were a lot of advancement opportunities,” she said. “I’ve seen that happen at Travelers, if you’re willing to work hard.”

Many other interns accept positions within our Development Programs and Leadership Development Programs.

The Development Program opportunities allow candidates to become skilled in a specific division of the company, including Bond & Financial Underwriting, Business Insurance Underwriting, Claim, Fixed Income Investments and Personal Insurance, to name a few.

Participants in our Leadership Development Programs rotate every six to nine months through several areas within a department they designate as a field of interest, such as financial management or information technology. Participants learn by doing and, at the conclusion of their rotational assignments, they have a better idea of the opportunities available to them throughout the company.

The BusinessWeek 50 Best Internships ranking is based on data such as pay and the percentage of interns who get full-time jobs, as well as student feedback.
