Human Resources Leadership Development Program

The Human Resources Leadership Development Program (HRLDP) is designed to build a team of highly talented, well-rounded Human Resources (HR) professionals who can think strategically, respond and execute quickly and lead the future for HR at Travelers. The HRLDP has been developing leaders for more than 15 years. If you constantly strive to strengthen your skill set through leadership and learning opportunities, we invite you to take advantage of our unique and valuable opportunity in HR.

Program components

The participants in the HRLDP rotate through multiple assignments across HR over a two-year period, with each rotation lasting approximately eight months. The assignments include a one-month generalist opportunity, either domestically or internationally. These assignments are designed for program participants to develop and demonstrate their HR technical skills, and to better position them for future leadership positions within the HR organization.

The program places a heavy emphasis on networking and leadership exposure. Networks develop naturally as a result of the rotational process. Program participants and graduates, as well as members of other development programs, are a network within themselves. Participants get to know one another, program alumni and business leaders through the training curriculum, cross-program committees, business meetings, informal gatherings and combined recruiting efforts. In addition, interaction with senior leadership can be expected throughout the program and may include presentations, project work, networking and mentoring.

Rotational opportunities

Program rotations include:

  • Compensation: Design competitive and cost-effective total compensation programs, practices and solutions that support management in leading the creation and maintenance of a high-performance culture at Travelers.
  • Employee Relations: Develop an understanding of Employee Relations issues, state and federal employment law regulations and corporate HR policies and procedures. May gain exposure to managing all HR activities for an assigned business group. May assist in the development of HR policies and programs by partnering with other HR specialist functions.
  • Talent Acquisition: Consult with business partners to develop and maintain external recruitment sources for exempt and non-exempt positions. Recruit, interview, assess and place applicants to effectively meet company staffing needs.

Training and development

Program participants take part in various training opportunities, including the Leadership Pipeline Program, systems training and rotation-specific training as needed. Personal and professional development opportunities are geared toward each participant’s individual development plan, and participants receive ongoing exposure to HR industry news and trends. In addition, HRLDP participants work with both peer and leadership mentors throughout their time in the program.
