At Travelers, we believe that having the right people in the right places at all levels of our company will ensure our competitive advantages and our continued success now and over the long run.
We’ve identified several steps related to retention and recruitment. One of these, in particular, is a business imperative: Creating a more diverse workforce. If we are to win the war for talent, this is crucial to our success.
I suspect that you’re thinking this is not the first time that an effort has been launched in our company or in others to address this very need. Certainly not, but because of that, we are taking new steps that will help us move forward on this key objective in a meaningful way.
One of those steps, given that “diversity” has many meanings for many people, is defining what diversity means to us here at Travelers:
“Diversity is a means to broaden our perspective, capabilities and reach to be more reflective of our customers, agents, communities and future opportunities. It means finding potential in current and prospective employees, the marketplaces we compete in and the suppliers we work with, in ways we haven’t before. It especially means seeking out creative and new opportunities for growth and development for all of those constituencies that are more uniform and accessible.”
We know that our company has dealt with a great deal of change over the past few years, and like any corporation, we will deal with our fair share of change in the next few. The best way to be prepared for whatever challenges come our way is to have a workforce that reflects the communities we serve, a workforce that has a variety of viewpoints, styles, backgrounds and experiences and a corporate culture that is open to the expression of widely differing points of view.
We hope that you will consider joining us.
Our employees are committed to the communities where we do business.Read more »
