Underwriting

Analyzing Risk is the foundation of our business strategy and a key to our success. Underwriters are the heart of the insurance process, gathering and researching pertinent information and using their analytical skills to evaluate the acceptability of business and institutional risk.

Those who served as junior officers and others who use data to formulate decisions and influence others have ideal military backgrounds for these positions.   

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for underwriting include 270A - Legal Administrator; 27D – Paralegal; 36B - Financial technician; 51C – Logistics; 251A - Info Systems Technician; and 920A - Property Accounting,  34A, 512.

Risk Control

Risk Control offers a wealth of risk management resources to help registered customers with their safety and loss prevention needs - from guides, technical bulletins, samples, checklists and forms to training.

Those who had positions involving the review in the analysis of risk and safety have ideal military backgrounds for these positions. 

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for Risk Control include 12h, 12z, 15B and 15H.

Claim

No one ever wants to file an insurance claim. So we go out of our way to make the claim experience as stress-free as possible for customers. Our knowledgeable claim specialists respond to our customers’ needs with speed, compassion, integrity, and professionalism.

Those who had positions involving building trades, engineering, transportation and logistics have ideal military backgrounds for these positions. 

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for Claim include 120A - Construction Engineer; 12C - Bridge Crew Member; 12H - Construction Supervisor; - 12K – Plumber; 12m – Firefighter; 12N - Construction Engineer;  12R Electrician; 12T - Technical Engineer; 12W Concrete Specialist;  12X - General Engineering; 15N - Avionic Mechanic; 915 – Automotive; 91B – Mechanic; and 91L - Construction Equipment, 88M,Z,915A,919A.

Nurses

When you think of insurance, nurses probably don’t come to mind. But did you know that Travelers has more than 500 nurses on staff? They’re a critical part of our claims management team, helping provide professional and technical expertise on all aspects of medical management and medical consultation.

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for nurses include 66B, 66C, 66E, 66F, 66H ,66N, and 66P – Nurse.

Investigators

Travelers has the largest and most complete investigative unit in the industry. We have more than 250 trained experts who work closely with our claim professionals to identify and investigate suspected fraudulent claims. Seventy-five percent of our staff have former law enforcement training, and 96 percent are field-based dedicated to outside investigative work.

Those who served as military police, investigators, intelligence and firefighters have ideal military backgrounds for these positions. 

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for investigators include 31A, 311A, 31B, and 31D.

Information technology and operations

Travelers has many diverse career opportunities in the IT field. Supported by an advanced infrastructure, our technology innovation continues give us a key competitive advantage in our industry.

Those with backgrounds including project managers, analysts, signal corp and engineering have ideal military backgrounds for these positions. 

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for IT and Operations include 24AX, 251A,255N,S,Z;25B,D

Human Resources

Travelers seeks highly talented, well-rounded Human Resources (HR) professionals who can think strategically, respond and execute quickly.

Those who held positions including Human Resources and personnel management have ideal military backgrounds for these positions.

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for Human Resources include 42A,B and H.

Product managers, personal insurance 

Is global warming causing more wildfires, hurricanes and tornados? What’s the difference between El Nino and La Nina? Are texting drivers causing more auto accidents? What does it cost to repair a hybrid or electric vehicle? When gas prices spike, do people really drive less?  Our product managers look at these and other scenarios to position our auto and homeowner products.

Those with backgrounds including analytical positions, military intelligence and navy nuclear program have ideal military backgrounds for these positions.

Customer service

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for Customer Service include 46 - Public affairs, 90A - Multifunctional, 88H - Cargo Specialist, 92Y -  Unit Supply and 920B - Supply Systems.

Personal insurance sales

In these positions, you consult and counsel with prospective customers via telephone to sell insurance products.

Any military skills that translate to strong customer service, organization, and attention to detail are a good background for these positions.

Finance

The finance community at Travelers offers diversified experiences and opportunities for ambitious and talented professionals. Everyday you're utilizing analytical, leadership, and teamwork skills while developing your career.

Any financial-related military experience is a good background for these positions.

Some of the MOS codes that are a good fit for Finance include 36A, B.
