From public safety to public works, the Town of Gilbert, Ariz., employs 1,100 municipal employees who serve a population of approximately 220,000. As a Travelers customer, the Town has worked closely with our Risk Control and Claim specialists to improve its risk management program and provide a safer city for municipal employees and residents.
Risk assessments and loss analyses pointed to opportunities in training, injury management and occupational hazard recognition that benefits employees citywide. The combined expertise and resources of Travelers Claim, Risk Control and Risk Management Information Services offered an effective approach to managing injuries. Working with the Town's risk manager to implement a post-injury management program, Travelers was able to help the customer reduce lost work days by 29 percent.
Travelers' industrial hygienists evaluated air and noise exposures for sanitation workers. They measured carbon monoxide levels in sanitation trucks and noise levels in the cab of a vacuum truck. Travelers then recommended their pump loan program for continued monitoring going forward. Supported by the Travelers Industrial Hygiene Laboratory, the Town is able to perform its own industrial hygiene monitoring to ensure municipal employees continue to operate in safe environments.
