What to expect from the property claim process

When you call Travelers to report a claim, you will be greeted by a customer service representative who will look up your policy information. The representative will check your coverages and contact information, and document the details of your claim.

  • From there, your claim will be assigned to a dedicated boat & yacht claim professional who only handles water vessel claims.
  • Our claim professionals undergo classroom and hands-on training at Travelers Claim University, our flagship training facility, ensuring they are prepared to assist you after any type of loss.
  • Your claim professional will contact you to review the facts of your loss and go over the claim process.
  • He or she will write an estimate to repair your boat or yacht, and work with your chosen repair facility to make sure that no details are overlooked. Our repair cost estimates are calculated using software that takes into account local material prices and labor rates. Generally, your claim professional can write you a check on the spot, based on this estimate.
  • During the course of repairs, your repair shop of choice may find additional items that need to be repaired. This is normal. If this happens, just have your repair shop representative contact your Travelers claim professional directly to discuss next steps. An adjustment to your original estimate may be necessary.
  • After you have received your payment(s) from Travelers, we may determine that another person or company is responsible for the loss or damage to your vessel. If so, we may try to recover these costs on your behalf from the responsible party‚Äôs insurer. This process is called subrogation.   • If the cost to repair your boat or yacht may exceed its insured value, the vessel may be declared a constructive total loss. In this event, the full insured value will be paid to you and Travelers may elect to sell the boat or yacht for salvage.
