What's Covered

Liability Coverage

Liability coverage includes both bodily injury and property damage liability coverage and is required in most states. Basically, if you cause an accident, hurt someone or damage someone's property, it can pay for covered damages and to defend you if a lawsuit results

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive coverage helps pay for damage to your vehicle that is not caused by a collision. For example, theft, vandalism, hitting a deer or other animal, storms and certain natural disasters.

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage helps pay for damage to your vehicle if your car hits another car or object, gets hit by another car or if your vehicle rolls over. This coverage is generally required if your car is financed or leased.

Personal Injury Protection

Personal injury protection (PIP), also called no-fault insurance, is available in certain states. It pays medical expenses, and in some cases lost wages and other damages regardless of who is at fault in an accident.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can help pay for damages and medical costs resulting from an accident caused by someone who has no insurance or inadequate insurance coverage.

Medical Payments Coverage

Medical payments coverage helps pay for covered medical expenses for anyone injured while in your vehicle, regardless of who is at fault.

Additional Coverage

Loan/Lease Gap Insurance

Gap insurance – or loan/lease insurance – can help protect you if your vehicle is financed or leased. If your vehicle is totaled, this coverage may pay the difference between the actual cash value of the vehicle and the unpaid balance of the loan or lease.

Rental Coverage

Rental reimbursement, or extended transportation expenses coverage, can pay for a rental car if your car is damaged in a covered accident and your car is out of commission for more than 24 hours.

Roadside Assistance

With Roadside Assistance you can have peace of mind knowing that help is just a phone call away. And best of all - this service costs less than many independent services. Because we know that everyone is different, we offer two levels of coverage, depending on individual needs.

New Car Replacement

Premier New Car Replacement® gives you the extra coverage you need. If you total your new car in the first five years, this coverage pays to replace it with a brand new car of the same make and model. Many insurers offer coverage for just the first two or three years.

Accident Forgiveness

Many responsible drivers are concerned about the possible premium impact of an accident or violation down the road. The Responsible Driver package includes accident forgiveness and minor violation forgiveness —two extremely popular features.

Ride Sharing

Available in Colorado and Illinois only, the Limited Ride Sharing coverage endorsement can help protect individuals who drive for transportation network companies. The endorsement provides auto coverage after drivers open a mobile ride sharing app, but before connecting with a passenger.

Policy Basics

Your car insurance coverage typically applies to any driver listed on your policy, which is why it’s important to list all drivers in your household on your policy.

Your policy may offer some protection for licensed drivers not listed on your policy who you occasionally let drive your car, such as:

  • Extended family (visiting grandparent(s), parent(s), aunt/uncle(s), niece/nephew(s)).
  • Friends (sharing shifts on a road trip, borrowing while your own car is broken down).
  • Boyfriend/girlfriend (who doesn’t live with you).

Check with your insurance representative to learn more about who needs to be included and who is covered on your policy.

It depends on your particular situation. At a minimum, drivers must carry bodily injury and property damage liability coverage at the state-mandated limits to cover vehicle and property damage, injury-related expenses and legal fees for other people involved in an accident you cause.

Policy options beyond the minimum state requirements are available, and can offer more complete protection. It is important to carefully consider your specific circumstances, including your risk tolerance and budget, then work with your insurance representative to create a policy that addresses your needs. Be sure to discuss the following popular coverage options with your agent.

Repair or replacement of your own vehicle

Plus, you could be qualify for additional discounts, such as safe driver, multi-policy, multi-car, new or hybrid/electric car, owning a home, and good student. How and when you pay can affect your premium, too — discounts may be available if you pay in full, by electronic funds transfer (EFT) or by payroll deduction, as well as if you pay on time.

Ask your insurance representative about these and other incentives to ensure you are getting all the discounts for which you are eligible.

The cost of insurance partly depends on the coverages, deductibles and policy limits you choose. Here are a few ways to ensure you are getting the best price for your policy:

  • Talk to your insurance representative. Make sure you have the right policy for your individual needs, and that you are getting all the discounts for which you are eligible.
  • Drive safely. Savings are often available to safe drivers. Staying accident, violation and claim free can translate to lower premiums down the road.
  • Bundle your policies. Purchasing your car as well as homeowners, condo, renters, boat or umbrella insurance through Travelers may qualify you for our multi-policy discount.
  • Consider a higher deductible. Generally speaking, the higher your deductible, the lower your premium. But it is important to choose a deductible you can afford in the event of a loss. Ask your insurance representative about the deductible options available to you.
