How We Calculate Your Property Claim Payment
When you have a claim a few things may affect your payment, such as the cost of repairing your damage and the amount of your deductible. For an overview of this process, watch the video below.

SPEAKER: When you have a claim, a few things may affect your payment, such as the cost of repairing your damage and the amount of your deductible.
(DESCRIPTION)
A magnifying glass hovers over the missing shingles on the roof. A policy document has a heading that reads: Deductible. Calculating the Value of Your Claim.
(SPEECH)
Let's say wind damages your roof.
(DESCRIPTION)
The magnifying glass passes back and forth along the damaged room. Text: Repair/Replacement Cost Value.
(SPEECH)
After you file a claim, we'll inspect the damage to establish the repair or replacement cost value of your damaged roof.
(DESCRIPTION)
Dollars fan out. Puffs of dust burst over the roof. When the dust settles, the damage is repaired and the home sparkles.
(SPEECH)
This is the amount of money it would take to get the roof back to like new status, using the same type and quality of materials.
(DESCRIPTION)
A line passes over the home, changing it back to its damaged state. The magnifying glass passes over the home again.
(SPEECH)
From there, we'll look at what condition your roof is in to determine its current value.
(DESCRIPTION)
Text: Actual Cash Value. Hands tick on a clock.
(SPEECH)
Most things depreciate over time, so we take age and condition into account to determine your first payment.
(DESCRIPTION)
A circular image of the roof appears alongside the clock.
(SPEECH)
In this case, we'd look at the condition of your roof since almost all structural components of your home lose value as they age.
(DESCRIPTION)
Money fans out of a wallet. To the left, a circular image contains a woman. To the right, a document has the heading: Replacement Claim Policy.
(SPEECH)
After we've determined the value of your damages, we'll apply your deductible, which is the amount you agreed to pay out of pocket when you purchase the policy.
(DESCRIPTION)
Text: Determining Your Payment. Buttons press on a calculator.
(SPEECH)
Let's review. To calculate your first payment, we'll start with what it would cost to repair or replace your item or items -- in this case, $15,000 for extensive wind damage to your roof.
(DESCRIPTION)
Text: $15,000 (Replacement/Repair Cost Value). Minus $2,500 (Depreciation).
(SPEECH)
After that, we'll subtract the value that has depreciated due to wear and tear to get the actual cash value of your claim.
(DESCRIPTION)
Text: Equals $12,500 (Actual Cash Value). Minus $1,000 (Deductible). Equals $11,500 (Your Initial Payment).
(SPEECH)
Then we'll subtract your deductible to calculate your payment.
(DESCRIPTION)
Text: Additional Payments May Be Pending. Money fans out next to the woman again.
(SPEECH)
That said, this may not be the only payment you receive.
For example, if you make repairs, you may be entitled to recover the full replacement cost value of the damage.
(DESCRIPTION)
The money transforms into a hammer, which pounds in a nail. A man in a headset and Travelers shirt replaces the hammer. A receipt appears between him and the woman.
(SPEECH)
You'll just need to provide documentation that the repair or replacement has been completed. If new costs are identified during the repair process, you may receive additional payments once you provided your Travelers claim team with the details and they verified that additional payments should be made.
(DESCRIPTION)
The receipt turns into a dollar sign, which then becomes a checkmark. The checkmark becomes one of many in a list, underneath the text: We're Here to Help.
(SPEECH)
At Travelers, we're committed to supporting you at every step of your claim.
