Helping Future Women Technologists

In 2022, women made up just 24% of the U.S. computing workforce –down from 37% in 1995 –according to Girls Who Code, a nonprofit with the mission to close the gender gap in entry-level technology jobs.

2023 marks the fourth year that Travelers will team up with Girls Who Code to provide a two-week Summer Immersion Program focused on computer programming and technology job opportunities for high school students across the United States. In addition, half of the girls that the organization serves come from historically underrepresented groups.

“We’re proud to partner with Girls Who Code,” says Mojgan Lefebvre, EVP and Chief Technology Officer. “They have changed the culture of what a computer scientist looks like and does and have inspired an entire generation to seek out the thriving jobs of the future.”

The annual Summer Immersion program engages the students in a computer science curriculum, taught by Girls Who Code staff. As part of the program, Travelers leads workshops on topics such as UX design basics, image recognition, generative AI, mentoring, resume building, and job interviewing. Employee volunteers from EmpowHER+, our women’s professional group in Tech & Ops, organize and facilitate the workshops.

You can learn more about Travelers’ commitments to the communities we call home and about the ways we create a welcoming environment through efforts to attract and retain the best talent from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. And our leadership development and intern programs give firsthand opportunities to explore a variety of disciplines and build a support network.
