IntelliDrivePlus is a continuous driving program that uses a smartphone app to capture driving behavior and miles driven data. It adjusts your rate every policy term based on how and how much you drive. When the policy renews, safe driving behaviors can lead to savings of up to 30%, plus additional savings potential for lower mileage – while riskier driving and higher mileage can lead to higher premiums. 

IntelliDrivePlus is no longer available for new enrollments.

After you install the IntelliDrive app on your smartphone, the app will automatically detect when you get into a vehicle and start a trip. It will collect driving behavior and miles-driven data for all drivers over the life of your policy. Your most recent driving performance and miles driven, and that of other enrolled drivers on your policy, will be used to adjust your insurance rate every time your policy renews. All eligible drivers on your policy must enroll in the IntelliDrivePlus program.

IntelliDrivePlus captures information about your miles driven and driving behaviors, including braking, acceleration, speed, time of day and distraction. A map of your route for each trip, along with your driving performance to date, is available for your review after each trip. Location information collected in the app is not used to determine your auto insurance rate.

Each driver’s total miles driven and most recent driving performance is used to calculate your insurance premium every time your policy renews. Yes, each driver’s app needs to capture at least 500 miles of driving during each driving performance assessment period. In addition, each driver’s app needs to be turned on, with permissions appropriately enabled, for at least half of each miles-driven assessment period.  

You can view the performance tab in the IntelliDrive app, which includes current driving performance information for all drivers on your policy. Each driver on your policy can log into their account on MyTravelers.com to view current driving performance and app status for all drivers.  

If a driver doesn’t install the app, Travelers will send a reminder text message to each driver who needs to install it. If the app is still not installed, we may remove all drivers from the program. Removing all drivers would affect your policy premium as your IntelliDrivePlus enrollment discount will be removed.  

If the app isn’t able to capture a sufficient amount of information for one or more of the drivers on your policy, we may not be able to use anyone’s mileage to price your policy at renewal. We also may not be able to use that driver’s driving behavior data to determine your policy’s price at renewal.

Yes. If you are not satisfied with IntelliDrivePlus for any reason, you may opt out of the program within 45 days of enrollment without impact to your policy, other than the loss of the enrollment discount. After 45 days from enrollment, driving behavior and miles driven data from all drivers may affect your policy’s premium at renewal.

Any handheld interaction with your smartphone while driving will negatively impact your distraction score. This includes in-hand phone calls, texting, typing and tapping on the phone. However, applications running on your phone that don’t require interaction will not negatively impact the distraction score – for example, navigation or music running in the background that you’re not engaged with. Interacting with a vehicle infotainment system, including phone calls from a connected Bluetooth device, will not negatively impact your distraction score.

GPS must be turned on and location services must be enabled for the app to capture trips. To check if your app has location services enabled on an iPhone, go to Settings>Privacy>Location Services and set the IntelliDrive app to “Always Allow.”

To check if your app has location services enabled on an Android, go to location settings and make sure IntelliDrive is excluded in your phone’s power saving mode and battery optimization settings.

Yes. For the IntelliDrive app to function accurately, your mobile phone needs to be turned on, with location services and Wi-Fi enabled.

The app can usually tell whether or not you are the driver of a vehicle. If you are a passenger and the app incorrectly records you as a driver, you have 10 days to change the information in the app.

To correct a trip within the app, go to More>Trips, select the trip that needs to be adjusted, click “I was the driver,” and change to “I was the passenger.”

Each enrolled driver on your policy should download the app from a link Travelers sends them in a text message. The IntelliDrive app is also available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The IntelliDrive app is supported on any Apple iPhone or Android that is able to support one of the 3 most recent software versions.

To install the IntelliDrive app on a new phone, search your app store for “IntelliDrive” and follow the registration instructions. IntelliDrivePlus will resume where you left off.

The IntelliDrive app uses a minimal amount of battery when you’re not driving and slightly more during a trip. Most users don't notice a significant battery difference after installing the IntelliDrive app, which is designed to use very little data. Data is transmitted over either Wi-Fi or your data plan, depending on which network is available when you’re using it.
